“Help, I’ve Been Dreaming”- Official Music Video For Ritual Talk

In 2016-17, this video was Dan’s first official animation project. He created it in collaboration with his brother Tom Criblez’s band Ritual Talk. Without knowing anything about Adobe programs, this was a sense of DIY animation school. Also, creating a story and world like this was a first taste into what film could be.

“Help, I’ve Been Dreaming” is a dream sequence spliced into 3 parts, using 3 different mediums and techniques of animation. Opening with photoshop digital animation, transitioning to 3D clay-mation, and finally oil paint on glass animation. It is a story of running away from what is right in front of you. Being swallowed by your own mind, quite literary.

It was submitted to film festivals and was accepted to small ones all over the world. Dan being 19 at the time, this was the beginning of an inspiring future in animation & film projects.

The song/video was a debut for Dan and Ritual Talk, as this project was the first launch of the bands name and music.

It premiered on The Wild Honey Pie, music blog:

The Wild Honey Pie-”Working for two years on the project, Criblez vacillated between three mediums (clay, oil on glass and digital painting), which parallel the narrative’s three dreamscape acts. Another aesthetically hearkens to a scenario in which Tame Impala binged out on a season of Reading Rainbow episodes.”
