EVERYTHING’S A LIE

"EVERYTHING'S A LIE" short film was born out of the lockdown experience of 2020. As it was being created the scenes and messages kept changing as the external and internal perspectives were heightened. Understanding that when distracted, the truth gets further and further away which makes us easier and easier to control. I wanted/needed to create this project to understand and remind myself what I learned throughout the experience. 

Visually, the project was inspired by a world I had been exploring in sculpture, painting, installation and drawing, prior to creating this film. The experience of the piece is an abstract lesson that is seen through my mind.. The anxiety and exploration of the brain is something I am always chasing in my work. The project started with the music in March of 2020 right as the quarantimes started. The short film supports a collection of songs called "6 feet apart"_Weeze. I am proud to create conversations with this project and hope that the film affects you in some way.

The process involved in the film was tediously compelling. There was all of a sudden so much time to burn, so I drew it. I taught myself the traditional technique of “on paper” animation. As challenging as it was, it was beautiful to feel and experience the film on physical material. Some of the scenes were done completely intuitively without an understanding of what they were portraying. This created a practice of expression through what I was processing and learning about the world. “EVERYTHING’S A LIE” became a period piece that is a reminder to me and who ever decides to listen to it. Most things are in fact a lie, so we must fight to “stay true”.
